We had a great show at the MAHA Class A All Arabian show this weekend in Columbia.  There was quite a bit of rain, but they allowed a 2 minute warmup in the covered main arena prior to each class so it wasn't too bad. It turned out to be a fairly large show with nice size classes.  Overall the quality of horses shown was well above average.

To start things off right, my four year old 1/2 arab mare, SGA Canadian Myst, was named Champion 1/2 arab mare on Friday.  We were very happy since this was her first show and she was really scared.  We had really taken her only because she was in the performance Maturity so the halter win was icing on the cake. In her performances she got a 1st and a 3rd.  They were small classes, but she behaved well.  She still needs work before I take her out seriously in performance.

Our two yearling futurity fillies(SGA Delilah Bay and SGA Bewitching Nyt) got first and second in their class.

The two horses we normally take to show did well as usual.

Taleem won all of the classes he entered except the costume AOTR (he decided to blow that one).  He won the English AOTR, the Costume Open, and the Costume Championship.  We didn't show back in the English Champ. because he already had his regional qualification and we didn't want to over do him.

Austin, our western/hunter horse also did well.  He won his Western Gelding Open class, got 3rds and 4ths in some big hunter classes and placed 3rd and 4th in his championships.  Oh...almost forgot.  He got a 2nd in Trail, which is a new division for him.  Overall it was a great show.

We took Taleem to the Region XIV show in Lexington, KY where he and Nicki got a Top 5 in English Pleasure AAOTR. We also qualified him in for driving (it was his first time to be shown in driving) so decided not to show him in the regionals.  That trip always seems to zap his enegy.

Our next big show was the Missouri State Fair Show.  We had a great show there as well.  Austin won the western AOTR, western open, and the Western Championship.  He also won the open hunter class and the Hunter Championship.  Taleem got 2nds in the English Classes and went Reserve Champion and he won the Costume open and the Costume Championship.  We also took Myst for the western and english 1/2 arab classes and she took 2nd in both.  She is off to a great start.

We have decided to add Taleem to our sales list.  I really feel that we are holding him back. With the right owners, ones that can really afford to promote and develop him to his greatest potential, this horse can be a National Champion.  If anyone is looking for a National Level English, Driving or Costume horse, let me know!  He needs his chance to be National Champion.

There was a fairly big downside to the summer though.  I got news that a young mare I had just sold last spring, SGA Voodoo Priss, had to be put down because a vet tore her intestines when he palpated her!!! He hadn't realized what he had done so that when the people took her home she was in distress when they got her out of the trailer...they contacted the vet right away but it was too late to save her..I shed a lot of tears over that....

SGA Voodoo Priss was a full sister to our stallion, SGA Sam Paso. She was purchased by Nick'e Brewer of Columbia Falls, Montana.

We had a great foal born this spring.  He is by Sam and out of Chal Tareena, a 3/4 sister to Chal Taleem.  Tareena is by Talant (Aladdin) and out of Rho Khareena (Rho Kheem).  He is the best Sam colt yet, with an extreme head, long, very uprigtht neck and awesome body and legs.  He is very exceptional.  He may be a keeper!  We plan on breeding Tareena to Hucklebey Berry+++ next spring!

Steve Laird has just started our two young geldings undersaddle and both are being very cooperative. River shows great potential as a western/hunter and Ziggy is bieng started in driving and saddleseat.

Well, that is it for now!  I'm adding my website (actually it's the surfinfool site---just click on the Sugar Grove Arabians banner---because I wanted everyone to see the great banner that my daughter, Nicki, designed for me) if any of you want to see any of the horses pictures---some have been updated, we have some video clips and an updated sales list.

Sincerely
Pat Bergfeld
